About Kanji Monster
What Kanji Monster is, how a round works, and how scoring and ranking are calculated.
Kanji Monster is a JLPT kanji drilling game you can start playing right away, with no login required. Pick a level (N5–N1) and a grid size, and a grid of empty boxes appears. Tap a box to reveal a random kanji and a multiple-choice question with four options. Get it right and the box turns green; get it wrong and it turns red, and that colour stays for good.
You can tap a red box again to review it, but that's only for practice — you can't earn points from it a second time. Once every box in the grid is filled in green or red, the session ends and the points you've collected are added to your total.
Scoring and ranking
Harder levels are worth more points per correct answer, and the leaderboard is a single, unified ranking of total points across all levels — so answering N1 kanji lifts you faster than N5. Based on your standing you're assigned a tier: Legend, Red Star, Jade Star, Gold Star, Silver Star, or Bronze Star.
Your account is kept alive with just a nickname and a recovery code — no email or password — so there's nothing to hold you back from jumping in. Start a game →
